Casa d'Oro (Golden House) is nestled on a terraced hillside, in a panoramic position with breathtaking views and surrounded by olive trees. It is located right between Gubbio, Perugia and Assisi, far from noise and pollution, and it’s the perfect location for those who want to relax in a quiet natural environment and visit Umbria’s beautiful and renowned historic cities. The house was built in the second half of the 1800’s using natural materials sourced locally such as local stone, oak wood and terracotta tiles and was recently renovated crefully preserving the original character and combining the traditional architectural features with elements of contemporary design. The outside of the house was landscaped to provide a terraced garden to each level of the house, restoring and integrating the existing stone retaining walls. The apartment is on the first floor of the house and was recently renovated to accommodate up to 4 people. It has two generous private terraces overlooking the valley as well as a private garden including an outdoor dining area and seating. I moved to the rolling hills of Umbria In 1980 after falling in love with this beautiful old house surrounded by olive trees and overlooking a beautiful valley. I soon discovered to have around me a treasure of spontaneous scented herbs like elicrisio and wild fennel, rare flowers like wild orchids and tasty plants like asparagus. A beautiful land populated by deers, hedgehogs, birds and fireflies. And no mosquitoes! Here I started weaving with manual looms and dyeing the yarns using natural colours extracted by native plants that I collect around the house. Every year in november we harvest the olives to make our own oil. I love traveling and I have been traveling around the world for thirty years, but nowhere compares to my house among the olive trees. It is my peaceful haven and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
There are restaurants, swimming pools and a horse ranch within walking distance (approximately 2km) and many beautiful hiking and cycling routes close by. The house is in the countryside and you will need a car to get around. Perugia airport is only 20 minutes away and cars can be conveniently hired at the airport. Perugia train station is 40 minutes away and cars can also be hired there. The nearest village is 10 minutes away. The motorway (E45) is is only 10 minutes away and Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi and Città di Castello are approximately 30 minutes away. Spoleto, Arezzo and Lake Trasimeno are approximately 1 hour away. Firenze can be reached by car in approximately 2 hours, Rome in 2.5 hours and Bologna in 3 hours.
