Hello I’m Carmel the owner of Casa Caterina, named after someone very special to me. Myself and husband Paul first discovered this area 15 years ago with our young family. We decided to take a break from our usual 2 week child orientated camping holiday and headed Como direction. We knew a little about the Como area but were not prepared for the sheer magnitude and beauty of the place. When we decided to buy out holiday apartment we knew we wanted it to be in the Varenna/Perledo location but had to wait almost 8 years to find a place that captured the magic of the area. Casa Caterina is that spot!
I love the outdoor life. I choose our apartment because its situation give the best views of lake Como and because of its large private garden. I spend endless hours gardening with the back drop of the mountains and lake, gaining inspiration from visiting the magnificent Italian villas nearby. I also enjoy hiking and spend a lot of time following the path that lead to local villages. Sometimes I play tennis in the newly refurbished tennis courts in Perledo 5 mins further up the mountain. If I decide to venture forth I sometimes take a ferry across the lake to Menaggio or Bellaggio sight seeing but love to return to Varenna which is much quieter For relaxation I love sitting in our patio area enjoying the beautiful Italian wines and delicious simplicity of the local food
It may be the mountains, the lake, the climate or a combination of all 3 but the general atmosphere and ambiance in this area nourishes and revitalise the soul instantly. We spend a lot of our time now hiking in the area, the Sentiero del Viandante (path of the wander) goes right past our apartment complex. On this path you can walk approx 40 min to Bellano, descend into the town have a long Italian style lunch, either walk back or take the bus back to the apartment like we do. The options are endless, touring the lake, villas and local towns, by foot car or boat or simply relaxing on our magnificently placed garden and patio or at the pool!
